We get it, the thought of slathering on a moisturizer on a humid day where your skin feels oily and sticky doesn’t feel appealing. But does having oily skin give you a free pass from having a moisturising routine?

While the monsoons may have you just washing your face and skipping your daily moisturization you might be doing more harm than good. Many people confuse oil with hydration, but the role of moisturizers is to improve skin's hydration by adding water to it, something Indian skin severely lacks.

With high values of TEWL (Transepidermal water loss - basically the amount of water that escapes from the skin) in brown skin, moisturizing regularly is a must. Still not convinced that using face moisturizer is a necessary step? Let us break it down for you.

Skipping on the moisturizer can be doing more harm than good

In our harsh Indian climate pollution, UV rays, and excessive cleansing can damage skin’s moisture barrier, causing a loss of moisture leading to a rebound increase in oil production. Second, a damaged barrier and dehydrated skin (which can also be oily, contrary to popular opinion) can lead to an increase in microtears and damage which can lead to pigmentation. But you don’t have to use heavy oils or moisturizers - Here are some easy hacks to ensure your skin is hydrated this rainy season!

1.Try a Toner

Toners are a simple way to amp up your beauty routine. They work by offering a burst of hydration to your skin. But watch out, some toners are formulated with alcohol, which can be drying—and that isn’t a good thing, even if you have oily skin. If you’re going to add a toner to your oily skin routine, make sure to seek out an alcohol-free formula like our Gulab and Glycolic Toner

2.Micellar water can be your best friend

Oil Clogged pores no more! Toss in a few cotton rounds soaked in micellar water in your bag and wipe the pad across your face. No rinsing or rubbing required. They are great to use on the go or post work-outs too!

3. Using lightweight matte finish sunscreen and moisturizers

No matter your skin type, sunscreen is a must and a good sunscreen can double as protection against the sun as well as nourishment for your skin. Our Basic Brightening Daily Sunscreen with an extreme matte finish which absorbs instantly with minimal white cast and Sunflower Extracts which repair and nourish.

4. A Sleeping Mask Works While You Don’t

Of course, we’re assuming you don’t do a late night shift ;). Using a light moisturizer or sleeping mask at night with ingredients like ceramides, hyaluronic acid and fatty acids (like our critically acclaimed Haldi & Hyaluronic Sleeping Mask) makes sure your barrier beefs up as you get your zzzs. Keep your oily, breakout-prone skin hydrated, glowing, and feeling fresh — not to mention looking clear and smooth — no matter the season. And even if your skin isn't oily, these are perfect picks for the monsoon!
